Enhanced Security Assessment Certificates

A distributed, arm’s-length framework designed to add a verifiable security-assessment layer to physical commodity trading while preserving the independence of assessment, commercial activity and authentication.

System overview

The Enhanced Security Assessment Certificate (ESAC) system is designed for physical commodity trades that may involve elevated maritime, geopolitical or security risk. An ESAC is a voyage-specific security assessment issued by an independent security agency to an authorised buyer or seller. It complements the commercial documentation and due-diligence processes already used in physical energy trading.

The central design principle is separation of function. The security assessment, certificate custody, commercial transaction, brokerage and digital authentication functions are performed at arm’s length from one another. No single node is intended to control the full chain.

Arm’s-length architecture

Independent security assessment

Independent regional security specialists collect, collate and assess information from an ecosystem of relevant sources and issue the ESAC to the authorised holder.

Buyer, seller or broker

Commercial participants retain responsibility for their transaction, contractual obligations, counterparty due diligence and all legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the trade.

Certificate holder

The authorised holder controls the certificate and presents it for verification when required for the relevant cargo and voyage.

Odysseus69 authentication

The Odysseus69 platform verifies that a presented ESAC is authentic, unaltered and corresponds with the voyage-specific particulars submitted for the proposed transaction.

This separation is intended to protect professional independence, reduce conflicts of interest and create a clear chain of responsibility between the parties that assess risk, conduct trade and authenticate documentation.

The role of Odysseus69

Odysseus69 is the authentication layer of the ESAC architecture. It does not issue the underlying security assessment and does not replace the independent judgement of the issuing security agency. Its role is to verify the authenticity and integrity of the certificate and confirm that the certificate corresponds with the submitted voyage particulars, which may include the cargo, vessel, loading and discharge ports, intended route, validity period and transaction reference.

In practical terms, the platform is intended to allow authorised counterparties to determine whether an ESAC presented in connection with a trade is genuine, has not been altered and is valid for the specific voyage for which it is being used.

Compliance framework

The ESAC framework is structured to operate in compliance with applicable sanctions, counter-terrorism, counter-terrorism-financing, anti-money-laundering, trade-control and other relevant laws in the jurisdictions governing a transaction. The system is not intended to circumvent, neutralise or substitute for any legal restriction, licence, sanctions screening requirement, counterparty due diligence obligation or regulatory approval.

An ESAC is a security-assessment and authentication instrument. It is not a licence to trade with a sanctioned person, entity, vessel, cargo or jurisdiction, and it does not make an otherwise prohibited transaction permissible.

Each commercial participant remains responsible for ensuring that its activities comply with the laws and regulations applicable to it and to the specific transaction. This compliance-by-design approach allows the ESAC security layer to sit alongside existing legal, financial, insurance, shipping and trade-control processes.

Commercial proposition

The ESAC architecture is intended to add trust and verifiable security information to high-value physical commodity transactions without concentrating assessment, custody and authentication within a single organisation. For energy markets operating across complex maritime corridors, the model is designed to provide an additional integrity layer that can scale with a network of independent regional specialists, brokers, buyers, sellers and authorised counterparties.
